Post: Are There Really Mentors Out There?

I am new to REI and I wonder if I am too "naive"...? Despite my inexperience in REI I bring a ton of skills and sales ability to the table, and of course I'm willing to dig in, help out, and LEARN. My question is, am I being too foolish to think that I can find a mentor in my area who: 1) won't charge me for being of service to them and allowing me to learn as we go; 2) would have any reason to mentor me; or 3) would have no ulterior motives in mentoring me other than allowing me to help them out as I learn from their experience?

I am a self-starter and aggressive go-getter but I realize I need to partner with someone experienced as I take my first baby steps....do mentors really exist????

"What's In It For Me?"

I am new to real estate investing and am looking for a mentor AND investor(s) in the Chicago area-NW suburbs from Arlington Heights to Huntley to Crystal Lake to Elgin.  I am an aggressive self-starter (I'm a female who sells luxury automobiles, need I say more?) with a ton of ability to "get out there" and make things happen...so I can immediately become an asset for the right partner/mentor.  In turn, I am looking to learn EVERYTHING as it relates to flipping & selling.  Eventually my goal is to buy and hold small-medium multi-family properties in the area as well as to own trailer parks (not the trailers, just the parks...!).

When I'm not selling cars I am developing my real estate business, so if you are a seasoned vet who can show me the ropes, share some deals and help me make my way, I guarantee it will be well worth your while.  Lean on me for the marketing, promotion and "getting out there" immediately, and I'll learn from you along the way, for a win-win for us both.

Any takers????

Where to start?!

I am so excited to have found this Bigger Pockets Community and I'm bursting at the seams with all that I'm learning, planning and want to do but I'm struggling with where to start!  I just started a new job, recovering from a bit of a financial mess and supporting my two beautiful daughters that I'd like to leave a real estate legacy to.  My goal is to run hard at my new job, get in a better financial place, and start investing in real estate by the end of the year, partnering with and teaching my young daughters to do the same.  That said, NO IDEA where to start!  I'm really inspired, and am studying everything real estate every minute I get, but HOW and WHERE do I get started in my situation?  I'd love to connect with a local group of other investors/potential partners in the Chicago area but can't spend a ton of money to learn right now.  That said, I do bring a lot of hustle and creativity to the table... :)

Suggestions and recommendations please!!!

Hi!  I am brand new to real estate and want to create another stream of income that will ultimately be something I can hand over to my daughters...that said, I work full time in the automotive sector, slowly saving up $$, and am passionate and tenacious about creating freedom and options for my family.  LOTS to learn but driven and excited to succeed! :)
