I think the US is headed the way of Greece. 

Hello everyone, I am now here so I am trying to learn as much as I can :) Me and my husband we want to invest in some properties in Greece and Romania.

We brought the common wall with the adjoining unit (along the kitchen and bathroom) up to current fire code (on this side):Due to our proximity to the property line and the neighbouring building, we also covered the rear external wall with resilient channel and 5/8" fire rated drywall to allow us to use vinyl siding, versus more expensive non-combustable siding solutions, when we re-clad the building.In addition to using rock wool (Roxul Safe-n-Sound) insulation in our fire walls, we installed it in all bathroom walls, the bathroom ceiling and in the "TV wall" and walls and ceiling surrounding the laundry space to provide sound deadening. 

A while after launching your venture, your neighbours - folks who have rented other units in the building for their own quite enjoyment - complain about the transient traffic to your unit.  

I am in Greece for another 4 months.

(read up on when Greece had a currency problem)  You could refi and cash out but if everything goes down like you think it will, you will own the property and be upside down too.

What types of properties are the neighbouring properties?

The debt ceiling, the EU, greece, the latest soft patch, etc.

At that point, those who bail us out will decide our tax and spending structure much the same as many are dictating it currently to Greece and, to a lesser degree, pressuring Spain, Portugal, and Italy.In spite of the fact that most everyone perceives a looming problem, neither our president, congress, nor the American people have the will to institute the necessary changes.
