@Muhammad Ali welcome! Depends what you are currently paying in rent, how much time you will shave off of your commute, and what your longterm strategy is. There are some extremely smart investors I have worked with that successfully pulled off that strategy and are set up to make sizable gains through improvements.

@Simon Stahl got it. Well in that case try to do some phone calls/coffee meetings and really ask around. The trick here is that you are going to not only want to find someone with a bit of experience, but also a willingness to work with you (shouldn't be too hard but the first time around you always want to be a bit more cautious).

@Simon Stahl welcome! Try and make it out to the August event if you can hosted by @J. Martin. There will be a ton of local BPers there and a ton of people that can help you out.
Outside of that, there are some monthly BP Meetups too I would recommend attending and letting people know what you are trying to achieve!

@Anthony Z. the Bay Area is a bit of a unique beast.
@Chris Mason put it greatly. The issue in the Bay is your time horizon, not when you buy really. If you are purchasing in SF proper or strong markets in the Peninsula/South Bay you should be fine as long as you can afford to ride out any roller coaster.

@Yair Coronel welcome! There are quite a few of us Bay Area BPers and a few that are Cal grads too. When I was doing the grind at school, Berkeley can definitely be a time squeeze. Honestly, make it out to the BP Meetups and listen to the podcasts when you are walking to class and you will be way ahead of most people. If you have even more downtime, get licensed. It is a few courses that you should be able to do really well on (you are at Cal) and then you will really have a nice tangible skill set you can always fall back on even if you end up becoming a doctor or a phd.

@Jaylyn Heartso if you can going forward, try and ask the agent how best you two should communicate. Sometimes it is a quick conversation to set expectations that allows for a successful relationship.

@Patrick Long welcome! Hopefully you get a ton of useful information from the site. If you can, try to make it out to one of the BP Meetups.
Go Bears!
