Welcome to BP man I graduated from UT in 09 with a degree in Philosophy, lol now I invest in Real Estate. You're on the right path as far starting super early that's great man. You will get a lot of advice from the Austin people on BP but you might want to ask some more specific questions about what specifically you want to do in Real Estate. (Flip, long term holds, short term hold then flip? or maybe even wholesaling, residential or commercial etc...) I feel like a lot of what you learn in school, capital markets, etc...is really more useful for making other people money than for making yourself money. The practical skills you will learn as a commercial agent and from actually doing deals yourself will likely be much more valuable than your degree so it's great that your already started in gaining those skills. Feel free to hit me up if you have any questions.

Welcome to BP Brian there's a ton of good Austin connections on the site and i'm sure they can give you some sound advice, and you will learn quite a bit on here. Let me know if you have any questions I also invest in Austin but i'm yet to flip a property.

I'm also from Austin and I have some preoperty in Austin but I am looking into San Antonio as well. I'm still in the research phase but it looks like there are flip opportunities right off of the MLS and some good cash flowing properties. I'll be heading down there every couple of weekends from now on to get a feel for the city, as I don't know it too well yet.

Welcome to Austin Shaun! You'll like it down here and you can actually get nice cash flow in many parts of the city. You might have to make your question about where to invest more specific depending on whether you want cash flow or potential appreciation. But most of the Austin investors on the site seem to like 78702,78745, and 78723.
I agree with the consensus but I also like 78741 (appreciation) and 78747 for longer term buy and hold rentals.

Welcome to BP man, I am in a similar situation and I agree with Jon. I am currently looking to buy property in San Antonio for cash flow but I have 2 rentals in Austin. San Antonio is much, much cheaper though so you may want to get started there, I guess it all depends on your goals and how much cash you have to invest. Good luck everything you will need to know is somewhere on this site, it's a great site.

Run the numbers on available properties in major Texas cities man you'll like what you see. I like Houston as well but I invest in Austin because I live in Austin and I am planning to start buying properties in San Antonio next because it is only an hour away from me and Austin is becoming a bit more expensive and the deals are harder to come by for me here.

But yeah I second Houston, Dallas or San Antonio

You can also become a RE agent/Appraiser etc....to not have a regular 9-5 job and be able to set your own hours, while learning some skills that will help in your real estate investing and continuing to have verifiable income.

Later on if you get enough properties you can actually manage them yourself and pay yourself w-2 wages with the cashflow. That will give you retirement benefits and verifiable income for future loans.
