@Samuel Lynch I am currently stationed in Misawa, Japan!

@Anne LaurenziI fully agree with @Ronan M. on what he said about asking around. Another thing to piggyback on that is to speak with the neighbors and see what they say about the building. Neighbors love to gossip!

Nice of you to come here man! I am currently active duty serving over in Japan and 21 as well. I would love to chat with some of the younger guys on here and see what they're doing and how they got started as I am looking to get started as well! @Antoine Martel

I am glad I came across this thread because I am active duty military overseas so I am not able to use my VA loan to purchase a duplex that I want to move into in the future. So I have to get creative about the down payment on a property because I don't have the 25% to put down on a property.

I really like the idea of paying back the lender at an interest rate thats a little better than they would get investing in the stock market, etc. then paying back the lump sum when you refinance the property

@Moises Mari I would love to! However, I am actually stuck in a situation because I am stationed overseas and will be getting out in 2019. I would actually love to speak with you about how you went from being active duty to being a real estate agent and investing!

Welcome to the site bud! I am from New Jersey as well but moved away with active duty military. Definitely hit up the podcasts and you can never read too many books!

Hey everyone,

I am looking to make a few more connections with people who live in South Carolina. I am looking for good recommendations for lenders and I would like to make contact with some wholesalers so that I gain the opportunity to see off market deals.

Thank you guys!

Kerry Baird I understand and I agree with you. However, I need a house for when we move to SC and the amount of time it would take for me to save up for a down payment would surpass the time we would be moving to SC so I need to act relatively quickly which is where I am stuck

Hello everyone, I am stuck in a bit of a situation that I really need to figure out what to do and make some progress! So currently I am stationed overseas in Japan and when I separate my wife and I will be moving to South Carolina in 2019. Now I would really like to purchase a duplex now so I can house hack before I have less than a year left in the military so it is easier to get approved. However, because I wont be able to live in the property immediately I will have to put at least 20% down I believe with the loans I have access to, which I do not have saved up. I was thinking about getting a partner maybe, but I have no experience so I believe it wouldnt be too easy to get one who would like to go in on the deal with me when I am a newbie. Does anyone have suggestions or ideas that I could possibly look into? Getting the down payment due to the high percent down is what is my challenge. I would love to hear everyones thoughts!
