In wake county you have to go to the courthouse. I don't know of any counties that post much info online. Every county should have all the property info posted near the entrance of the court house. Some counties are easier than others when it comes to viewing bid information though.

What information are you looking for exactly?

It is fairly easy in NC to set up an LLC, you can get the forms on the secretary of states website. I do believe you have to turn them in in person, but this may have changed since I've done it last. No need to pay legal zoom, they also slow down the process quite a bit.

Maybe a hand held one, they will help with most minor issues. 

The bigger ones are fairly cheap to rent for a few hours if need be. They can be pretty hard to use depending on your plumbing, but are fairly simple overall. In my opinion, unless there is an issue there is no reason to do it as a preventative measure.
