Post: Questions about working as a home inspector

@David Rupp I think I disagree with @Barry Cohen (if he is talking in regards to working with the public and contractors) about it not being a plus to have construction background, though in matter of fact most home inspectors do not have such. If you try and get a why they did such and such they have no clue because they are only book worthy or company trained. It sure is no fun working with such individuals, especially when they have the "God" complex.
If Barry was just talking about getting a job, then he is right, it isn't always necessary.
I do agree that the value is if you have real interest in homes.
Just be a real person when talking to others. Know what you are doing, and most importantly, do not be afraid to say, "I don't know, but I'll find out". Then do find out and let the person know. You then will, I think, have a lot of repeat business.

Hello and welcome to BP.
I have bought and attended several real estate investor/ training seminars. I sure wish that I would have known about this site years ago. I could have learned so much and saved a lot of money.
You made a great decision to join.
The Best thing to do is get educated. Read, books on investing in real estate, listen to the podcasts (hover the mouse over the “Education” tab on the top of the page, then click on “Podcast”), attend webinars and stay active on the forums while connecting with other investors in your area and pick a niche.
P.S. if you want somebody to know that you have a question or a comment for or about them, type "@ and their last name (sometimes the first)". Wait a couple of seconds and their name will appear, click on it. Their name will then appear in blue, like above. This will send them a notice that they have a question or comment waiting for their response, or that you just appreciated them.
Have a great day!

@Christopher B. from what I hear, I would love to invest out there, but it is all about the team. It stinks that bad experiences can make a bad name for all others in a said field. Take Investors for example. There are many bad ones that are rude and try and take advantage of everyone. Sometimes if you say RE investor, the person cringes and runs the other way. lol, I guess that is the way of things.
Have a great day.

@Christopher B. We always charge the going rate unless we find someone like you. We have been in business since 1972 and I think it is because we value the customer that gives us repeat business. We give them discounts. Never have we come across someone that does what you say you do. If we had a client like you, golden.... I don't see why they don't see the value of your efforts. To me they seem stupid.

@Jem J. thank you. Flooring problems is one reason I never put the snap-lock cheap floating floors in. It takes very little water to make them look like crap. The composite wood under the laminate soaks the water up and then swells. The seams pull apart, so ugly. Unless you keep a constant wax coating on it, and no water gets beneath, then the floors are the worst. It is better to have a vinyl flooring that looks like wood and are relatively cheap to replace every so often. [Unless of course you add "real hardwood" flooring or tile.]

@David Dachtera The stupid State of California made my father file a "fictitious name" for his DBA business, because he is not using his name (H. Anderson DBA Anderson Construction). I have been trying locate why and wasn't sure if it was the same with an LLC. I still don't have a lawyer in California and am still trying to find a reffered one that likes investors. lol.

@David Dachtera Thanks, that is what I thought.
Why is there so much mention of Nevada Corps.?
Do they set up an S Corp there that owns all the LLC that are in the other states?
By the way, do you happen to know do you also have to have a "Fictitious name" registered when you have a LLC or S Corp?
