@Howie Chen, my pleasure. I just finished this write up on investing in Austin.  Take a look at please give me your honest feedback.  Is it clear?  Helpful at all?

@Howie Chen - would this be a long term buy & hold rental property?  You can join "Investor Underground" for Austin on Facebook.  There are contractor referrals on there almost daily.

@Wei Cho - if you're in Austin you will *have* to leave the trees and design around them. :)

North Austin is fit for purpose for you, as you mentioned.  You can get newish construction, solid professional family renters in A & B properties that will appreciate as Austin continues to grow.  Pflugerville is great, near 45 & 130.  Amazon, Dell and Tesla will be a short drive away on the toll road - and you can do 80 from Pflugerville to the airport where Tesla is building! :)

Good advice already.  I've found volunteering is very helpful, too, in "normal" times.  You can be of service the community *and* be networking.  Congrats on getting your license!

Welcome (early) to Austin! It's a great place. The city can be onerous to work with, honestly, if you're doing your own development (teardowns or build-your-own ADU). Here is some info on ADUs from the city: https://www.austintexas.gov/pa...

You'll also want to look at the location of trees before you buy something, if you're planning to add your own ADU... can't take down larger trees in Austin!

Nice! Congrats.  What part of town was this in?  Teardowns are going for $450k+ in north central (Allandale, Crestview).

Bienvenue! I definitely agree that house hacking is a great way to go!  It can be difficult to get financing before you have two years of US credit history, but start planning now, so when the time comes you are ready.  There are also tax considerations from FIRPTA, when you sell, if you are not citizens.  I recently had some clients from Brazil - they are happy now, but it was a learning curve for sure!

@Poem Turner and @Ryan Kelly are right on.  I have some clients looking hard at Wolf Ranch in Georgetown right now.  Great schools, low crime, new construction, close to highways, etc.  $400 is a stretch there, but if you can extend a bit or find an existing home nearby, that's a good spot.
