Hi Kenneth, welcome to REI and BP. Always glad to see another New Yorker in the mix! I have properties in Cincinnati and Arkansas, and would be glad to share contacts and market info if it helps. @Collin Placke's advice is on point with market selection and team building.  Once you select a market, it's also good to map out go/no go zones and property (buy box) requirements.

Thanks Don! I’ll PM you.

Welcome to Bigger Pockets!

This is a great place to learn and network. A lot of forum members are very knowledgeable in their respective fields related to real estate investing, whether that is real estate sales, wholesaling, flipping, rentals, lending, self-directed IRA and Solo 401k investing, or tax and legal guidance.

If you haven’t been to it already, you might want to check out the BP blog: https://www.biggerpockets.com/blog/

The site has quite a few tools that can be helpful for new members. I like the search features: https://www.biggerpockets.com/search

Use the Bigger Pockets glossary to learn more about real estate terms that may be new to you: https://www.biggerpockets.com/rei/glossary

Alerts can be really helpful too: http://www.biggerpockets.com/alerts

 Thanks for all the information!

The larges property that I have purchased is a 10 unit but I am working on 44 units right now. These are all in Columbus, Ohio

That’s awesome @Remington Lyman! One day I hope to be doing similar deals. I have to take the first step, which I can feel coming soon.

@Mikael Winkler Thanks so much for your input. I've heard a ton a good things about Columbus. And yes, I've been on BP for a few months now, have listened to at least half of the podcasts, and realize that this is a tremendous source for all things real estate. But not only that, it's the genuine support from all of the members I've come across and have seen on other posts that I find truly awesome.

@Collin Placke hey! I appreciate the response. There are a lot of details there to unpack and I’ve been so for a few months now. You’re absolutely right about picking a market. I‘ve recently added Indiana to my list of potential markets so let’s see where I end up!

@Abe Mendoza Thanks for posting this. I’m in a similar situation living in Long Island, NY with my soon-to-be wife. We just bought our primary residence before looking into why it’s more of a liability than anything right now. But we’ve heard about some upcoming plans in our neighborhood that will raise our property value. We’ll look to cash out refi in the next year or so. I look forward to hearing how you make out!

@Mark Albini Hey Mark! Evansville sounds like a good place to invest if you want to enter in at a lower price point which appeals to me. What has the appreciation been on properties over the past 5 to 10 years  and what is the outlook?

Hey guys! I'm a newbie investor from Long Island, NY. Just wanted to introduce myself. My fiancé and I just bought our primary residency on Long Island and are looking to invest out of state using the BRRRR method in places like Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and where ever else makes sense for us. Hope to connect with a bunch of you guys soon!
