@Maikeli Niu As you can see there are obvious pros and cons. I second @David Pere's recommendation to talk with @Stuart Grazier from Storehouse 3:10 Ventures. As he mentioned, they are both active duty and work with a lot of active duty and veterans (who also would be happy to share their experiences with you). Even if turnkey isn't your planned long term strategy, it might be a great way to take action now and start investing while you research other markets or strategies.

Congrats @Travis Hill! You can't go wrong partnering with @Stuart Grazier and the entire Storehouse team! They provide some solid cash flow buy and holds!

@Sion Harrington I would definitely talk to @Stuart Grazier who is a co-founder of Storehouse 3:10 Ventures (storehouse310turnkey.com). He and his partner are both active duty military and have a long list of military customers. If you want to get to know them a little better check out their podcast "Filling The Storehouse" Let me know if you want some references and I can put you in touch with them!

Cheers,
Marcus

@John McCreery First off, congrats on getting started at such a young age!

A couple thoughts on your comments. Regarding buying property around military bases, I wouldn't make the blanket assumption that it is "usually cheaper". For example, many Navy bases in places like Hawaii, San Diego, etc are not necessarily in inexpensive locations. Now, that isn't to say that there aren't plenty of military towns in which the prices are affordable and they are good places to invest. I'd just recommend analyzing each market individually.

Also, if your intent is to keep it for a long term rental, make sure you are analyzing as such before you purchase it even though you intend to live there for a period of time. Otherwise, you might buy what you want to live in initially and find that the math doesn't work out for a long term rental when it's time for you to move.

Definitely check out the VA loan and consider house hacking part of a quad, tri-plex, duplex, bedrooms, etc. It's a great way to cover the mortgage while you're living there and build up some capital for future investments!

Cheers!

@Account Closed ~ Great to see you on here and getting started at a young age! I've been investing in buy and hold for a number of years, mostly near my hometown in Missouri. However, I've been stationed in England for almost a year now and I've actually done significantly more investing this year than I ever have in the same time period previously. Since I moved here, I have bought buy and hold, provided private lending, and am a Limited Partner in a Mobile Home Park syndication. I'm happy to share my experiences if you want to chat sometimes.

In addition to Bigger Pockets, you might consider also checking out @David Pere's From Military to Millionaire or Active Duty Passive Income.

@Shaquille Alexander If you don't get any specific responses on here, you might hop on @David Pere's From Military To Millionaire or on the Active Duty Passive Income Facebook pages where there is a solid military audience. Even if you don't get any specific responses, plan to start one yourself even if it's only a couple people initially!

@Dana Butterworth Any chance that she has a Power of Attorney that was signed before he left on deployment and can sign on his behalf?
