Post: FHA available for first time home buyers only?

Hi all,

I'm looking to purchase my very first property and i'd like it to be a multi-family where I can move in while rent the other unit(s). However, I live in an expensive market (NYC) and so will likely have to be limited to buying an investment property out of state so that it can cash flow. My question is the following, if I buy an investment property (while continuing to rent where I live), does that prevent me from qualifying for an FHA loan later on when looking to own my primary residence? Meaning, is an FHA loan only available for first time home buyers?

Thanks!

Hello,

I'm looking at several areas in Newark and Pennsylvania to invest in multifamilies and was hoping for recommendations as to what areas you guys recommend. I aiming to properties under 200K in areas where they can rent for positive cash flow (assuming 20% down). I would welcome any suggestions!

Thanks!

Hi all for those who own buy and hold (for renting) properties in Florida how do you feel about owning and renting out properties that have a pool? Any insurance concerns vs the concern of losing out on higher rental rates or ability to even find a tenant?

I have thought about buying a multi and house hacking but I live in a very pricey market (NYC) and would prefer to stretch out my money in a less expensive market while maximizing my ROI/cash flow. Makes sense?

Hi all, Pardon my silly question but I’m ready to make an investment in a rental property and wanted to ask, since this would be my first property purchase (overall - I currently rent) how would first obtaining a long to purchase an investment property affect my ability to obtain a loan with similar advantages to a first time home buyer in order to purchase a home to live in with my family at a later point (2 or so years later)?

Hi i'm relatively new to BP and was wondering if someone could provide some guidance as to what steps I should take before investing out of state.

Any market recommendations? Should I obtain a local lender/property manager? Should I open an LLC before I invest? Any guidance will be appreciated.

Thanks!
