Hey guys! I actually JUST got my real estate license...yesterday! :) My initial thought was that the market has slowed down in terms of finding great "deals", but it's heated it up in terms of it being a seller's market....I figured if I got licensed I could make money that way and put it aside to build a nest egg for when the market corrects...now I have to admit I'm pretty excited about everything I have learned and am looking at seeing what else I can make happen with it. I'm definitely looking forward to working with investors! Best to you!

Interesting timing of your comment @Jay Hinrichs...I have been the "newbie willing to do anything to get help from a mentor", only to end up sorely disappointed in the direction of that "opportunity". I get that the mentor relationship needs to have a "What's In It For Me" aspect for the mentor as well as the mentee, but you know us newbies will do A LOT to get that help/wisdom/experience benefit...anyway, I have replaced the need for a mentor with the wisdom and advice that can be easily found here on the forums, and will continue to build relationships with new "friends" willing to offer their wisdom and advice!

@Andrew Johnson, nicely said...! I agree that the mentor question is totally over-played (though I completely understand why). As a newbie myself, when I initially asked that question, I truly knew NOTHING. Since then I've unfortunately started the mentor relationship twice...once to only have the one person determine they had other "motives" beyond simply working with me and helping me learn real estate investing...and the other to simply have me working for free and driving all over the place in "hopes" of finding a deal. So now I'm a little more savvy and yes, a LOT clearer on my WHY, my intended strategy, my value (I'm new to REI not business, sales or marketing) and how to funnel my tenacity, sales prowess and efforts to be a value to myself AND my mentor while learning.
I'll be looking locally here in the Chicago market and then like you, hope to branch out-of-state. I travel to Cali for work several times a year, so perhaps just maybe we'll get to meet and chat in person about how/if we could work together! :)

Well @Jay Hinrichs, that's a nice addition to your signature line...! :)
By way of update (since I know you've been wondering for the last 2 years...!), I'm planning on getting my RE license and jumping into the deep end of REI...FINALLY. These last two years I have learned a ton on BP, and also learned a lot about mentors and what to bring to the table to be an asset. Still looking for experienced partners/guidance but all in all, I'm super excited about where this is (finally) going...love to work with you one day! :)

@Jay Hinrichs is a formidable force on BP and I have come to seek out his wisdom on the many, many, many posts over the years. I appreciate the wisdom and ongoing willingness to share and am super excited to finally get a "peek in" via the podcast...wonderful stuff BP, as always... :)

@Brendan Rowe are you able to switch with someone else? I was an HR Manager here in IL for years, and generally management is good about accepting it when certain folks need time of for religious beliefs. With that said, notify management in writing about the situation and that you are requesting accommodation (use that word), especially since they were closed last Easter. HOWEVER, if it has been common knowledge for awhile that they are opening this Easter, and that you've had your schedule for more than a week, they could argue that you've had plenty of time/notice to get someone else to work for you.
Chances are it will all be OK! :) Just be sure to communicate with them...in writing.

Hello @Kyle N.! I just heard about this investor group as well and was referred by someone who is having positive experiences investing with them. Since we're both in IL I'd be interested to hear if you've done anything with them, and if so how things are going?
