Welcome, Chavis! I'm from Indianapolis and currently live in Chicago. Networking at your local REIA is a great start -- just continue your education here and with the podcasts for sure and then hit the streets. If you're a people person, walking around neighborhoods and talking with neighbors you come across can be a good way to get some insight into the area. Good luck and don't get discouraged by all of the details!

@Chris Fairchild Welcome! I lived in Lafayette from 2009-2011. Currently based out of Chicago, now. Definitely be sure to dive right in and check out all the podcasts and great articles on the blog.

I've set up LLCs before and they were rather easy, if it's a single-member LLC. With more than one person, you'll need an operating agreement. If you're just doing a simple LLC, I may recommend going ahead and doing it yourself.

Welcome, James. It sounds like you're in a similar situation as I am right now. In Chicago as well, working towards my Real Estate License with the intention of focusing on fix and flips. Hopefully see you at the meetups!
