Real estate is real estate, whether it's a buyer or a seller. I don't know for sure, but I would guess that bandit signs are held to the same rules. Cities don't like random signs on public property, but if the sign is on private property, not much the city can do about that.

@Adam S. Not only do you have to worry about the county, but each city has their own rules regarding signs on public property. Check out this PDF for Portland area cities and their rules on real estate signs.

I checked with JR Hinds and he advised me that the correct date for the Meet-and-Greet is on August 1, so I was wrong to suggest that it was on August 8.

@Tiffany T. Welcome to BP, @Mesut Ergin pointed you in the right direction for the local area REI groups and meet-ups. I do have one correction, the BP meet-up for August is on the 8th and not the 1st. It would not be fun to drive to the Eastside, during rush hour, only to find out that you're a week early. :-)

Hi @Ciarraghe G.,

It sounds like your grandmother is pretty adamant about staying where she currently lives. If it's just the tax issue, you can let her know that she will not pay taxes on the first $250k of profit on the home where she lives. I suggest you talk to an accountant about her tax situation. As for the rental income, it may be wise to hire a property manager who will ensure that the tenants pay their rents and be able to her maintain the property to keep it in good shape. They will also be able to get her market value rental income for the neighborhood, which may offset the cost of bringing in a PM. This way she can move and still keep the rental for the monthly income.

@Katrina B., Congratulations on your decision to get your broker's license.

I would suggest that you start your search now for a brokerage firm where you can "hang your license." If you're looking for training to get yourself up-and-running in your real estate business, Keller Williams has some of the best training programs for new brokers. Of course, other brokerages have good training as well, so you'll need to shop around for the best fit for you. If your goal is to use your license to help you with your investment business, then look for a firm that will support your investment goals, just make sure you're upfront about your goals.
