I am in the Detroit area but house hacking in Dearborn. It is some cool meetups you can come to meet investors and I just listen to a lot their podcast through BP really helped then search for anything specific when it comes to my head.

I have properties in Detroit. It is 2 big things to start with, a trusted team of people like a contractor, wholesaler, realtor, property manager, etc, and as @Travis Biziorek says buying in good areas where it's up and coming but solid areas not the same few areas everyone talks about.

We use Zillow and just really evaluate each prospect when they call.
