Post: Backsplash tiles and Drywall paper paper

I’m trying to remove the old backsplash they are at least 20-25 years old.

It’s coming out with the drywall paper. I tried to break it but it’s coming out with drywall paper.

Do I need to install the new drywall or repair with drywall compound.

Can I install new backsplash without drywall paper?

Thank you

Hello Everyone

I have to install drywall, but there are a lot of wires as you see in the pictures. What can I do to avoid putting the drywall screws in the electrical wires? Can I use nail glue for installing the drywall or any suggestions?

Thank you

I may be late to the party but can you install 1x4 lathe at 16" OC? That way you can move the wires to the middle of those and nail/screw your drywall to the lathe. It will only cost 3/4" of space to do this.

Thank you for your feedback

Looks good.  And that rubber (no-hub) coupling is correct.  If it was a rubber-only coupling with no metal shield, it would be incorrect.

There is a type of PVC/ABS glue that's allowable for connecting the two.  But you'd have to use that glue specifically.  Either way is good.

In my opinion, the nailing plate you're adding will work nicely.

I’m going Install metal plate

The coupling looks OK, assuming that it's designed for the outside diameters of the pipes, but the notch in the joist is bad. It weakens the joist significantly. I don't know the best procedure to compensate for the notch, but you need something.

I’m confused about ABS to PVC transitions - Rubber coupling Vs Glue.

Drywall wall is not put back yet and I can remove the rubber coupling and use the Glue to connect ABS to PVC.

Plumber is used the rubber coupling. Is it good and acceptable to use rubber coupling?
