@Tim G. - Absolutely how I feel right now and I don't like it.  I don't mind paying money for leads - we do it all the time in other areas, but in this case it feels snake oily.  Maybe because I can't put a quantitative KPI like I can for marketing we do.  And honestly I don't care if we rank #1 on google for a key word - I can about the lead generated and the deal closed.  Those are numbers I can deposit at the bank.

I actually have a Carrot site but the SEO company told me that they don't use the Yoast SEO part of the site because it doesn't matter any more so it is worthless to me right now.

If there are metrics I can use to judge the worth, I'm happy to buy lots of shovels, but otherwise it seems like I'm panning for gold in the wrong spot.

Thanks, @Eugene Beard - Those are interesting questions to consider and probably something I should have researched more before hiring them

Will do some more searching around and see if I can find more questions/results like that!

Thanks for your time!

@McKinley Crowley - Great thoughts.  I guess I was just hoping for something more quantifiable that just rankings on keywords.

I've never heard of IP marketing!  I'll definitely research that!  Thanks so much for the suggestion!

Thanks, @McKinley Crowley.  That all makes sense.

Maybe it is short-sighted of me, but if we aren't getting any leads or direct results from the SEO work, I really don't care if we rank #1 for every search.

I do not have a background in marketing but I'd think that there should be something more than just page or key word rankings to judge their work.  Wouldn't page views or forms completed or something related to website engagement be better than just a word ranking?

Has anyone hired an SEO company to help with their site?  What KPIs did you use to evaluate them?

We hired one in January and I'm just not seeing any results or any real activity on my site. Wondering if it is all a scam or I'm just impatient.

Thoughts?

@Account Closed - I love your hustle and passion.  But I'm super leery of all of this.  I obviously don't know you or this mentor but it seems sketchy:  "met this guy online and he's been teaching me stuff already and he's giving me a chance already. I also checked out his website and he seems legit, he's just trying to help me out I believe."

I don't want to see you on the back of a milk carton.

@James Wise - Great thread.  Thanks for starting it.

While Memphis has its problems (crime, taxes, crappy schools), at least the rental laws are reasonable (for now).

I'm super curious about a few things:

1) for those of you who have rentals in this cities with expensive taxes and burdensome regs, did you simply factor those in when deciding to invest there?   Or have those just grown over time?

2) In these burdensome cities are most of the landlords large corporations?  (I would assume so because in general the more regs the higher barrier to entry; thus keeping the mom and pops - like me - out of the competition)

3) If you currently own property in these areas would you sell and reinvest else where if there was a cost effective way to do it?

@Karla Yudy - I don't think so.  For the threads you posted to you can see those in under the followed tab above.  Otherwise for those threads that you like and want to keep track of, you can chose to follow them.

I know not a helpful response, but that is the only advice I have.

@Phillip Syrios - last year when we staged our personal residence, the staging company suggested the Limoncello wallflowers from Bath and Body works http://www.bathandbodyworks.com/p/limoncello-wallf...

Very subtle but also light and clean smelling.  :)
