I like your game plan Brian and it appears that you have a solid foundation in Real Estate - I think you are on the right path. Multi-Families are hot right now and a really good way to go if you can find the right deal. As you know, CA is expensive but the return on investment can easily offset the high costs to invest here.
Best of luck and don't be a stranger on the forums.

I think an LLC is the way to go - problem is, they are hard to get banks to lend to them without a previous credit and income history. One way to start out could be getting someone to owner finance a deal into your LLC, this way you skirt around all of the red tape a conventional lender would have.
AirBnB is also a great idea, although it makes me a little nervous as a long term business model because you never know what your local city or county will do in the future as far as regulating them.
Best of luck!!

Welcome BP, this is most likely one of the best decisions you could have made! I think your idea of house hacking a multi is superb. That is by far one of the best ways to get into Real Estate (it's how I did). Not only do you get part or all of your mortgage paid for but you also get the hands on experience of being a landlord and all that entails.
I am excited for both of you, best of luck and don't be shy about posting in the forums.

I agree with @Antoine Martel on this one. I don't know how active you are in the forums but the more you are the more you start to recognize who the seasoned players are. Plus you can get a feel for the sort of people you may want to reach out to by reading all of their posts. Then reach out to them one on one and offer to help in some way or buy them lunch.
You are on the right track, best of luck to you!!
