@Ryan Merrifield - It's sometimes difficult to find a CPA who both specializes in real estate and is located close to you in Virginia Beach.

There are lots of good CPAs on Bigger Pockets who work remotely and have clients all over the country. You can just reach out to them and determine which one fits your needs the best.

@Nicholas Henderson - If you mean passively investing in startups - you could passively invest in real estate syndications. Some of those opportunities are listed on equity crowdfunding websites which might be the closest thing to Angel List.

@Shawntinique F. - Most of the tax professionals on BiggerPockets specialize in real estate and work with LTR investors. You can reach out to them and explain your personal investment and tax situation to see if they’re a good fit. Most of them serve clients in all 50 states.

@Lee K. - It's sometimes difficult to find a CPA who both specializes in real estate and is located close to you in Snohomish County.

@David Hager - the title of the post is referring to a question on the calculator but your post is asking something else. Are you asking how a property manager would manage your property with you being out of state?

@Danny Mittler - Definitely look into buying a 2 - 4 unit with an FHA. Live in one and rent the rest. It's a great way to jump start your investing. Just make sure all the numbers work before diving in.

@Kaustubh Johri - If you want something applicable from the IRS you can read their publications. I don't think reading the IRS code will help you come up with tax savings techniques. The IRS code is just one facet of tax law. In addition to the Code there are tax regulations, IRS bulletins, and tax court cases that have to be understood to get the big picture. It's better to read books that summarize some of the strategies for you or at least the publications, as I mentioned above, will help give you some practical guidance.
