it will last forever. Is that what you need? I live in Florida, so wood siding makes no sense here, but people use it. Vinyl will last too, but is also much easier to damage. Go to Home depot and look at Hardy board and decide for yourself if it will make sense for you.

A timely topic since I spent my day carefully dismantling a section of a laminate floor in a rental. The last tenant turned off the power before he actually let us know and didn't empty the ice maker bucket.....thus a big section of flooring ruined that was brand new when he moved in. Mission accomplished, but I  won't use laminate in future.

I was going to suggest possibly Hardy board siding. This is a fiber cement product that comes in different textures and colors.

@Ben Stout,

This really isn't the forum for such a discussion, but as a retired AF Reserve Chief, my retirement check of a couple of grand a month is a welcome reward for the control I gave up for 30 years of my life. Duty in Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan , and I wouldn't trade a day of it! But that's just me.....

Seems that some folks here would like some info on what might be happening in a neighborhood. Take a look at Nextdoor.com, it does just that if you have an active group of concerned homeowners. If one doesn't  exist for your neighborhood, it's  easy to start one up.

Why would you want to risk your own funds on an unknown? Read about how many people have tenants that don't pay their rent on time or at all. If you get one of them, why would they pay the utilities? Always make them responsible for their own accounts!

Suggest you read Nebraska landlord/tenant law.

Something that you almost never saw 2-3 years ago and is quite common now is an REO that has been rehabbed by the bank. It appears that they found that rather than give them away, they can do a little work on the place and flip it, possibly even make something on a bad investment.
