I'm not able to get to the actual story and for some reason cannot register on the site to view the story. What are the basics of the story??

Thanx for the mention @Davon Lowery and the compliment. It was definitely a learning experience for me and let's you know what you can expect at times and what you need to be prepared for. It was never stated either time why the extension was needed. I had to ask and then it was told to us. I think one of the most important things I learned from the experience was having a exit or contingency strategy. I think many times new investors fail to have an exit or contingency strategy...or two..in case of situations such as this one creep up on you.  

I agree with @Brie Schmidt. My thought is to stay where you are and perhaps use the $20K to enter into a JV with someone with more experience that may be able to guide you and you can learn while you earn...
